According to media reports, this is the first YouTube channel from South India that has achieved 1 crore subscribers and received a diamond play button. For the uninitiated, a diamond play button is a recognition bestowed upon by YouTube on achieving a certain milestone.

The channel was started by a team of 6 people in 2018 as time pass. The 75-year-old Periyathambi, who is a former caterer by profession started the YouTube channel along with his grandchildren Ayyanar, Murugesan, Tamilselvan, Muthumanickam, and Subramanian.

You will be surprised to know that these people do farming for 6 months to earn a livelihood. It was only during the rest of the six months when they were idle they decided to launch a YouTube channel with limited internet connectivity and resources. In no time, their content went viral and was recognized by people pan India.

The USP of the channel is traditional South Indian recipes on agricultural fields, using traditional cooking methods.

In each of these videos, Periyathambi along with his grandchildren cooks these local delicacies in big batches. As per reports, in pre-pandemic time, the food was consumed by the family and neighbours. But later during the pandemic, they started giving food to different orphanages and the needy.

Recently, to celebrate the success, they donated Rs. 10 lakh to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) from their YouTube earning, which is made to support the state’s fight against Covid-19.
