LUCKNOW: Dropping a hint to the opposition players ahead of the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, congress national general Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the party was not ‘close minded’.
When asked specifically about a possible alliance she said: “the party won’t take any step which might weaken it. Though we are not close-minded on the issue, it is too early to say anything at the moment.”
Speaking about the party’s strategy in the 2022 elections she said: “Our primary aim is to defeat the BJP and we are ready to do anything for this. Congress will finalise its strategy as per the circumstances.”
She informed that Congress has worked very hard over the past one and a half years. “We have been able to build our cadres till the level of the gram panchayat and Congress will contest the elections with full might.”
On whether she will be seen more often in Lucknow with the 2022 election gaining momentum she said: “yes of course.”
Slamming the BJP leaders over their comment that Priyanka was a political tourist, she said: “I am not a political tourist. I have been regularly coming to UP. This is BJP’s propaganda to show me and my brother Rahul as non-serious politicians and we are not going to be cowed down by it.”
Priyanka stated that the BJP wants to create a narrative that she and Rahul were non-serious politicians. “They have created a perception that I have been away from UP which is not the case. Congress has raised every matter that affects the life of people especially in the past 18 months,” she said.
Earlier, addressing party workers on Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told the workers to shun their fear and contest the 2022 elections with all their might.
“Do not be scared… congress workers are the ultimate source of strength to the party. Work round the clock and fight the 2022 election with all your might the way you have fought for every issue bothering the people of state on streets since 2019,” she had said.
