SRINAGAR: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an anti-terror operation in Achabal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
One of the three slain terrorists, identified as Arif Hajam, was involved in the killing of Territorial Army havaldar Manzoor Beigh in June 2019 while he was on leave, IGP (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar confirmed.
Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Army, CRPF and J&K Police had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Achabal’s Kawarigam village. During the search, holed-in terrorists opened fire at the security forces, triggering a gunfight in which the three Lashkar operatives were killed, the IGP said.
Meanwhile, all entry and exit points leading to the spot of the encounter were sealed and additional forces were deployed to prevent law and order problems.
Some days ago, four Lashkar ultras were killed by security forces in south Kashmir. Among them, two slain in Kulgam were planning a terror strike on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, IGP Kumar said.
