Instant home food delivery app MyKhaana, now also in Mumbai!
3 min readSince the pandemic, you would have seen home chefs selling over WhatsApp or Facebook groups and users taking a liking to the homely recipes being dished out. Home chefs have their niche audience, those seeking comfort in homemade food, typically no-frills but high quality. The only alternative today to ordering from Zomato or Swiggy is to order from small canteens or daily tiffins from small roadside eateries. This is where a Bengaluru based start-up named Happy Food Technologies Pvt Ltd got creative!
Happy Food Technologies Pvt Ltd runs MyKhaana, an app-based online marketplace for ordering homemade food directly from home chefs of your choice. Functional in Bengaluru for the past six months, MyKhaana went live in Mumbai this month with its first batch of verified home chefs. MyKhaana won accolades for its unique platform, most notable being FICCI FLO’s ‘Game Changer Award in Food Category’ and ‘Women’s Power Summit Award in F&B category’ by Billennium Divas at Bombay Stock Exchange.
“Our USP is instant delivery of home-style food from a home chef, who is listed on our platform post quality verification. Quality is at the core of our customer-first philosophy. We want our users to have a simple yet homely recall with no compromise on quality or quantity”, says Shriya Khanna, Co-Founder of MyKhaana. She left her decade long dazzling corporate career with Hindustan Unilever to find her entrepreneurial calling. “Users today want convenience at their fingertips. You go back to a daal khichdi after a weekend of binging on pizzas and burgers. You do not seek restaurant food every day. What you want every day is healthy yet tasty variety of food. This is especially true with professionals, working couples, women, and seniors. We give users the option to order from home chefs whose verified profiles project their personal information, regional background, kitchen photographs etc. so that users can order without any tension from a home chef of their choice”, she says.
‘I love cooking, and with MyKhaana, I got the opportunity to expand my home-based business. I love the processes implemented by them to ensure it is completely hassle-free for home chefs like me to sell on their platform. I can start my business at zero cost. What more could I ask for” says KitchenStar Sushma, who cooks and sells daily from her home kitchen and has been associated with MyKhaana for more than six months. Users also benefit from ordering homely recipes, which are either too expensive to order from restaurants or utterly non-existent in restaurant menus. Ashish Malik, an office goer from Mumbai, says, “I found traditional recipes on MyKhaana, and I tried home chefs from different regions daily. I love the variety. The best part is that you do not need to pre-order. You get the delivery in 60 to 90 minutes which is fantastic when you order every day! I order every day from my office and stopped carrying the lunch box, which was a hassle anyway.”
Start-ups are making your life easier by the day, and users are the ultimate beneficiary. “We want to leverage on the digital revolution and bring the unorganized sector of home chefs online by giving them cutting edge tools to better their businesses,” says Satej Salvi, Co-Founder at MyKhaana, who has a keen eye on strategies to which their start-up is looking to navigate. He says, “We do not aim to compete with Zomato or Swiggy. We aim to build our niche as India’s first integrated home food marketplace where the power of the Indian household can be channelized by opening doors for small businesses and bringing them to the forefront.”
MyKhaana is finding new users by word of mouth, and corporates are keen to provide their employees with homely food when they resume office. A senior bank employee said, “We get MyKhaana corporate lunch boxes at our head office for all employees. While canteens are shut, we can provide hygienically made home food to our employees at the bank through MyKhaana. It is a much safer option than engaging with any restaurant, and employees prefer it that way. It is also heartening to see that small home-based businesses benefit from our orders on MyKhaana”. Truly ‘Made in India’ marketplace ‘MyKhaana’ seems to be clearly in a win-win situation with home chefs and users alike, true to their motto ‘Khushi se khao.. Khushi se khilao’!
