From the Newsroom to the Classroom: How Mridu Bhandari Built MentorLeap

Award winning journalist, Chevening Scholar and communication coach Mridu Bhandari has spent over two decades mastering the art of impactful communication — now she is making that expertise available to every professional in India.

Every platform has an origin story. For MentorLeap, it begins not in a boardroom or an incubator, but in a newsroom — in the intense, high-stakes environment of live television journalism, where communication is not a skill you develop at your own pace. It is a survival requirement.

Mridu Bhandari spent over 2 decades in TV journalism — an experience that shaped not just her career, but her understanding of what genuine communication mastery looks like. She earned the Ramnath Goenka Award, one of Indian journalism’s most coveted recognitions, and was selected as a Chevening Scholar — a distinction awarded by the UK government to exceptional emerging leaders from around the world.

The Gap She Saw

Through years of journalism and subsequent work as a communication coach, Mridu observed a pattern that troubled her: brilliant professionals who could not get their ideas heard. Highly qualified individuals who were routinely overlooked in meetings, passed over for promotions and unable to translate their expertise into visible impact. The problem was almost never a lack of knowledge. It was a lack of the skills to make that knowledge land.

The market offered plenty of online courses and motivational content — but very little that was structured, practitioner-led and genuinely transformative. Most professional development programmes addressed technical skills or provided inspiration. Almost none addressed the full picture of what it takes to be seen, heard and trusted as a professional.

“I spent two decades in environments where your ability to communicate was not just your edge — it was your entire career. I built MentorLeap because every professional deserves to develop that edge.” — Mridu Bhandari

Building MentorLeap

The platform Mridu built, MentorLeap, is a direct expression of that vision. It combines live bootcamps, executive coaching, recorded courses and AI-powered mentorship into a single, cohesive ecosystem — all underpinned by the MISHA framework, MentorLeap’s proprietary five-part leadership philosophy.

The official launch of MentorLeap on 15 March 2026 validated everything Mridu had observed. A record 3,628 professionals attended the platform’s Free Personality Development Programme on launch day alone — a response that confirmed what she had always believed: the demand for this kind of structured, human-centred professional development was not just real. It was urgent.
