NEW DELHI: The department of personnel and training (DoPT), which comes under the direct charge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saved 65% in departmental expenditure during April-June quarter of 2021 as compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020.
DoPT managed savings of 100% on foreign travel, 86% on administrative expenses, 79% on publications and 60% on domestic travel during the April-June 2021 quarter.
Lauding the huge cut in wasteful expenditure by DoPT, minister of state for personnel Jitendra Singh during a comprehensive review meeting ahead of the start of Parliament session on Monday, said it was quite significant as all ministries had been directed by the finance ministry to save only 20% on travel, food and conferences. DoPT had far surpassed that with a 65% cut in wasteful expenditure, he pointed out.
Singh also emphasised that a timely review of channels of submission should be undertaken to ensure prompt disposal of office files by reducing the file journey to just four layers, adopting e-office version 7.0, digitisation of central registration unit for circulation of electronic receipts and operationalisation of desk officer system.
In the fight against Covid-19, he said, the DoPT, being the nodal department for personnel management in respect of the Central government, had been issuing suitable instructions from time to time to minimise the spread during the first and the second waves of the pandemic.
Singh said that measures like exemption from biometric attendance, regulating attendance in offices, making use of Aarogya Setu app mandatory on compatible mobile phones, extension of time limits for submission of APAR and training of frontline workers played important role in tackling the spread of Covid-19 in government offices, according to a DoPT release.
