The Lok Sabha Secretariat on Thursday issued letters to Members of Parliament Sisir Adhikari, Sunil Kumar Mandal and K Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju seeking their responses in 15 days to petitions moved against them under the anti-defection law.
While Adhikari and Mandal defected to BJP from TMC ahead of the West Bengal polls earlier this year, YSR Congress demanded KRR Krishna Raju’s disqualification as an MP over the alleged anti-party activities he was involved in.
In June this year, TMC moved a similar petition before Birla asking him to disqualify Mandal and Adhikari.
Mandal, an MP from the East Burdwan seat, joined BJP in December 2020. Adhikari, who followed in March, was elected a TMC MP from Contai in East Midnapore district. Adhikari’s son, Suvendu, defeated chief minister Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram by just under 2,000 votes. All MPs have been asked to give their response to the secretariat’s letter within 15 days of its receipt
